Seizure

My son was seized by darkness during work hours.
1 wasn't aware of anything until I woke up in the ambulance. A
statement, not a question.
Devin took a selfie of his injuries
and sent it to his boyfriend.

Earlier he said he felt like he was in
a dream, couldn’t remember specifics.
Now he is afraid of anything
that might trigger another episode,
bright lights or loud noises.

I carry his anxiety like an awkward bundle I
can’t put down. At night,
I float his darkness
into my dreams—my anxiety as flotation device.
Hold my hand if you're sinking.

Hold my hand anyway.
We’re dancing in color,
chasing away the dark.
